Hua Hin is an excellent choice for a leisurely family vacation destination. This charming town on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand offers kilometers of beaches and plenty of exciting attractions and things to explore.
If you live in Bangkok, the town is less than a three-hour drive away. This makes Hua Hin an ideal destination for a week-long trip or a weekend family getaway. We'll tell you some of the things you can look forward to on a trip to Hua Hin and where families should consider staying.
One of the best family-friendly hotels in Hua Hin is the Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin, right next door to Vana Nava Water Jungle. We offer single rooms and two- and three-bedroom suites that are perfect for families, and we even offer bunk beds for the kids! With our Vana Nava Games Room, our infinity view outdoor swimming pool, and the exciting rides and attractions of Vana Nava Water Jungle right next door, your kids will never want to leave.
A quick and easy way to get around town is on the local Song Teaw. These are the green pickup trucks that serve as the town's public bus system. There are four designated routes costing between THB 10 and 25 per trip, depending on the length of your ride. The operating hours are from 6 AM to 10 PM.
Note: Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin offers scheduled shuttle services travelling around Hua Hin.
Maruekhathaiyawan Palace is a summer seaside palace in Hua Hin built entirely from teak wood for the Royal Family in 1923 under the Royal command of King Rama VI. The palace, also called ""The Palace of Love and Hope"", consists of three Tudor-style sections, The King's living chambers, the Queen's living chambers and the Sewakamart section, containing offices, a theater and a room for official functions. Long, covered walkways connect these three sections. The palace has been fully restored, and visitors are free to explore the expansive grounds.
Although there are actually six night markets in Hua Hin, the two most iconic are the Hua Hin Night Market at the corner of Petchkasem Road and Sa Song Road. Moreover, there is a Cicada Market on Hua Thanon 21 in Khao Takiab Beach. The markets open by five and run until midnight, and both markets are along the town's song thaew routes.
The Hua Hin Night Market offers many stalls selling handicrafts, clothing, electronics, beachwear and souvenirs. Cicada Market features a variety of artwork from the Hua Hin Artists Village, along with local handicrafts and souvenirs. Both markets offer a mouth-watering array of local seafood and other Thai delicacies and beverages.
From late November 2024 onwards, Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin will open a gate that directly connects to a back entrance. Guests can take a short walk through Nong Kae train station and reach Cicada and Tamarind Markets in just few minutes.
Spending the evening strolling around a night market in the balmy breezes blowing off the gulf and sampling the array of tasty foods is one of the favorite ways for locals to spend an evening in Hua Hin.
Take an adventurous cruise and explore a mangrove forest from elevated walkways in Pran Buri District south of Hua Hin. The whole family will experience a different side of coastal Thailand you may never have seen. With a professional guide, you’ll board a small boat and cruise down towards the mouth of the river. Then, you’ll disembark and explore the magnificent mangrove swamp, where you'll see marine animals and birds. You'll enjoy a walk along the elevated walkways as your guide tells you about the surrounding flora and fauna.
Your kids will be excited to get a glimpse of the wild elephants of Thailand and other exotic species with a day trip to Kui Buri National Park, just west of Hua Hin.
Other species living in the park include gaurs, golden jackals, white-handed gibbons, Malayan tapirs and porcupines, wild boars and even tigers and leopards, though some of these species are rarely spotted. The only way to visit the main animal-watching area is to book a safari pickup with a guide at the park's visitor center. The guide will be able to lead you to the most promising viewing areas and identify the animals as they are spotted.
